Terms of Use
Last updated: 4 November 2026
These terms are the agreement between you and Qu Taotao, the individual developer who makes Tacy ("we", "us"). They cover the Tacy app and the tacyapp.com website. By using Tacy you agree to them. If you don't agree, please don't use Tacy.
If you got Tacy from the App Store, Apple's Licensed Application End User License Agreement also applies. If the two conflict on how you may use the app, Apple's agreement wins.
Our Privacy Policy explains how we handle your data.
1. Who can use Tacy
You must be 18 or older. Tacy is a learning app for adults, mostly people who want Chinese for work.
2. What Tacy is, and what it isn't
Tacy teaches Mandarin Chinese, starting from zero, with business situations as the setting. It is a course, not a translator and not an adviser.
- The business situations, companies, prices and people in the lessons are made up for practice.
- Nothing in Tacy is business, legal, financial or tax advice. Tacy can't tell you whether a deal, supplier or contract is safe.
- We don't promise that you'll reach any level, pass any exam or win any business by a certain date.
3. AI features
Practice chats with Chen, the message helper, Ask Nuri, writing help and speech checks use AI. AI makes mistakes: it can mishear you, misunderstand a message or give a wrong explanation.
- Check anything important before you rely on it, especially numbers, dates, prices and quantities.
- The message helper prepares text for you to review and copy yourself. Tacy never sends messages or does deals on your behalf.
- These features work only after you allow them, and need an internet connection. The lessons themselves work without AI.
4. Your account
You can use Tacy as a guest. If you sign in with your email, keep access to that inbox to yourself, because anyone who can read your sign-in codes can open your account. One account is for one person.
You can delete your account at any time in You › Settings & privacy.
5. Purchases
Payment is handled by Apple under Apple's terms. Prices are shown in the App Store and in the app before you buy, in your local currency.
Some content is free, including Chapter 1 of the basics course and sample business lessons.
One-time course purchase. "Business Chinese from Zero" unlocks the rest of the basics course and the business pack. You pay once. The lessons, audio, scenes and phrases you bought stay yours, including later corrections, and work offline once they're on your iPhone. The course purchase doesn't include unlimited AI use.
AI Coach subscription (optional). AI Coach raises your daily AI allowance; the current limits are shown in the app. It doesn't unlock lessons. We won't lower the allowance during a period you've already paid for. If we lower it for later periods, we'll tell you in the app at least 30 days before your next renewal, so you can cancel first.
- It renews automatically every month at the price shown, unless you turn off auto-renew at least 24 hours before the end of the current period.
- Your Apple ID account is charged when you confirm the purchase and at each renewal.
- Manage or cancel it in your Apple ID settings. If you cancel, you keep AI Coach until the end of the period you paid for.
- Ending the subscription never removes lessons you bought or your progress.
Restoring. Purchases are tied to your Apple ID. On the You page, Restore purchases with the same Apple ID moves them to the Tacy account you're using, for example after you reinstall, change iPhone or delete your account. If a purchase belongs to another Tacy account that has an email, sign in with that email instead.
Refunds and cancellation. Refunds are handled by Apple under its policies; request one at reportaproblem.apple.com. Depending on where you live, Apple's Media Services Terms may also let you withdraw from a purchase within 14 days. None of this limits any right to cancel or get a refund that the law where you live gives you.
Deleting your account doesn't cancel a subscription. Cancel it with Apple separately. You don't have to cancel before deleting your account.
Fair use. Daily AI allowances exist to keep the service affordable for everyone. Don't try to get around them, for example by creating many accounts.
6. Your content
"Your content" means what you type, paste, say or save in Tacy, such as chat lines, recordings, messages you paste into the helper and saved phrases.
- You keep any rights you have in your content.
- You let us store and process it, and pass it to the service providers named in the Privacy Policy, only to run Tacy for you: for example to transcribe a recording or write an AI reply. We don't use it for advertising. If you turn on speech checks, Fish Audio may also keep your recordings and use them to improve its AI under its own terms, as the Privacy Policy explains.
- Only submit content you have the right to share. Don't paste passwords, bank details, other people's personal details or confidential business information.
7. Acceptable use
Please don't:
- use Tacy to break the law or to harass, threaten or deceive anyone;
- try to get the AI to produce harmful, hateful or sexual content;
- copy, resell or publish Tacy's lessons, audio or characters;
- scrape the service, overload it, test its security without permission, or get around usage limits or payments;
- reverse engineer the app, except where the law allows this despite these terms.
If you do, we may limit or close your account. Unless it's urgent or the law prevents it, we'll tell you why first and give you a chance to respond.
8. Our content
The lessons, audio, characters (including Nuri and Chen), artwork and software are owned by us or our licensors. We give you a personal, non-transferable licence to use them in Tacy for your own learning. Use what you learn at work as much as you like, but don't copy, resell or share the content itself.
9. Changes to Tacy and to these terms
We improve Tacy over time, so features may change. If a change makes something you paid for clearly worse, or we stop offering Tacy, we'll tell you at least 30 days ahead where we can, and you keep any right to end the contract or get a refund that the law where you live gives you.
If we change these terms, we'll update the date at the top. For important changes, we'll tell you in the app before they take effect. If you keep using Tacy after a change, the new terms apply; if you don't agree, you can stop using Tacy and delete your account.
10. Liability
We work hard to keep Tacy accurate and available, but we can't promise it will always be available or error-free.
If you're a consumer in the EU or the UK, you have legal rights when digital content isn't as described or fit for purpose, and nothing in these terms limits them. We're responsible for foreseeable loss caused by our breaking these terms or failing to use reasonable care. If content we supplied damages your device, we'll repair the damage or compensate you.
Outside those rights, and to the extent the law allows, we aren't responsible for indirect or unforeseeable losses, or for business decisions you make based on lessons or AI output, and our total responsibility to you is limited to the amount you paid for Tacy in the 12 months before the claim.
Nothing in these terms limits responsibility that can't legally be limited, such as for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud. Nothing in these terms takes away the rights you have as a consumer under the law of the country where you live.
11. Problems and contact
If something goes wrong, please email [email protected] first; we'll try to put it right. If you live in the EU or the UK, you can also use the courts of the country where you live.
